TACC Spain - More than 200 people attend the premiere of the documentary 'Yalah' in Sabadell5/23/2019 On Wednesday, February the 27th, Sabadell once again demonstrated its commitment to the Sahrawi people in a key year, in which it is commemorated the 30 years of Twinning between Sabadell and Argub (Western Sahara). On the day the 43rd anniversary of the proclamation of the Arab Democratic Sahrawi Republic (RASD) was celebrated, the city hosted the premiere of the “Yalah” documentary.
The documentary, with the authorship of TACC and produced by the City Council of Sabadell, is one of the actions that have been carried out based on the new twinning project of Sabadell with the Sahrawi people. It was recorded at Tindouf, between November and December 2017, with the collaboration of students of the Audiovisual Training School Abidin Kaid Saleh through a participatory process. Yalah shows five stories of anonymous people living in Sahrawi refugee camps. These stories are linked to the five axes of the current twinning project between the Sahrawi people and the city of Sabadell: gender, awareness, youth, education and health. At 6.30pm, the first people were already queuing at the door of the Imperial Cinemas to pick up their tickets. An hour later, just before the start of the projection, the room was completely full, causing some people to stand to see the documentary. Among the audiences, so heterogeneous, it was highlighted the assistance of some of the young people who assisted in the 2018 Saharan solidarity camps, some of the members of Solidaris with the Saharawi People of Sabadell, and even some Saharawi who live in the city. Míriam Ferrándiz and Mario Álvarez were in charge of presenting the event and of contextualizing and introducing the public in the current context suffered by the Sahrawi people. Once the projection ended, there was an interesting debate between Tiba Sibiheiba, Director of Cooperation of the Ministry of Culture of the RASD and guest of honor of the ceremony, Alba Fernàndez, documentary producer and Karen Madrid, the journalist who led the event, along with the participation of Víctor Rojano, one of the youngsters of the 2018 Saharani solidarity camps, who explained his personal experience in the camps. The day also had other activists events with the Sahrawi people. In this sense, Tiba Sidiheiba, was received in the morning at the City Council of Sabadell by Maties Serracant, mayor of the city, Míriam Ferràndiz, Councilor for Civil Rights and Gender, and Ramon Vidal, Councilor for Health, together with Mario Álvarez and Cristian Garcia by TACC. In addition, the City Council took the opportunity to hang the Saharan flag on the facade of the City Hall.
